Fils de corsaire, mousquetaire du roi à vingt ans, académicien à
vingt-cinq, musicien talentueux, séducteur invétéré, Maupertuis
a mené une expédition périlleuse jusqu'en Laponie pour vérifier la
théorie de Newton : il s'est ainsi rendu célèbre comme «l'homme
